Use this guide when Mampu AI asks for an OpenAI API key in Settings > Integrations > AI Providers. The same key may also be called an OpenAI secret key, project API key, platform key, or API token.

After you create the key in OpenAI Platform, add it to the OpenAI card on the AI Providers page (Settings > Integrations > AI Providers).
Before you start
- Use an OpenAI Platform account that you control.
- Make sure you are in the correct OpenAI organization and project.
- If OpenAI asks you to add credits, choose a plan and add a payment method before using the key.
- Keep the key private. Anyone with the key can make API requests on your behalf.
Create a key during OpenAI Platform onboarding
1. Go to platform.openai.com/login, enter your OpenAI account email address, then click Continue. You can also continue with Google, Apple, Microsoft, or phone if those are configured for your OpenAI account.
2. Open the verification email from OpenAI, enter the code on the Check your inbox screen, then click Continue.
3. Fill in the profile fields, including Full name and Age, then click Finish creating account.
4. On Welcome to OpenAI Platform, enter an Organization name and Project name, then click Continue. The project you choose here is where the API key will belong.
5. On Choose your plan, select the plan that matches your usage. The screen may show options such as Free, Prototype, or Accelerate. If you need more usage or access, select a paid plan.
6. If OpenAI asks for payment, add the payment method and continue. Do not enter card details unless you trust the account and project you are setting up.
7. On Make your first API call, enter a clear API key name such as Mampu AI OpenAI, then click Generate API Key.
8. When the key is generated, click Copy and save it in a secure password manager. OpenAI shows the full secret key only once. If you lose it, create a new key and replace the old value in Mampu AI.
Create a key from an existing OpenAI Platform account
1. Open platform.openai.com/home and confirm that the correct project is selected in the left sidebar. If your credit remaining is 0.00, add credits before using the key in production.
2. In the left sidebar, click API Keys. This opens the API keys page, where you can view existing keys and create a new one.
3. Click Create new secret key.
4. In the Create new secret key modal, enter a name such as Mampu AI OpenAI, select the correct Project, then click Create secret key.
5. On Save your key, click Copy and store the key securely. Click Done only after you have saved it.
Add the key to Mampu AI
1. In Mampu AI, go to Settings > Integrations > AI Providers. 2. Find the OpenAI card under FAQ, knowledge & media processing. 3. Paste the copied key and connect. 4. The card shows Connected when the key is accepted.
The OpenAI key powers AI Knowledge (FAQ generation and search), voice-note transcription, image understanding, and article translation.
Troubleshooting
- If the OpenAI integration fails, confirm that the copied value is the full secret key and not only the tracking ID.
- If AI replies, summaries, grammar fixes, labels, or Copilot features fail after setup, check that the OpenAI project has credits and that the key is still active.
- If a key is exposed or shared by mistake, delete it from the OpenAI API Keys page and create a new secret key.
- If you use multiple OpenAI projects, create the key inside the project that should pay for Mampu AI usage.
